Manual Physical Therapy

Manual Therapy involves gentle, hands-on manipulation of the neuromuscular system for symptomatic improvement, functional restoration, and organizational ease. When the alignment is organized, the body can function with less pain. The bone structure may need gentle adjustment to achieve this alignment, but soft tissue may also be restricting movement. Both bones and muscle influence the ability to do what you want to do with comfort and ease. Techniques such as myofascial release and massage may be used to work with soft tissue, whereas techniques such as Muscle Energy Technique and Strain/Counterstrain can resolve problems with the boney relationships.

At Healthwell, San Francisco Physical Therapy, many of these manual osteopathic techniques are used with our physical therapists’ application of manual therapy.
